Vision & Mission

The founding team

Apolitical, confidential and transatlantic, the Club brings together business, diplomatic, political and cultural leaders called to rise above changes of government and the ups and downs of both nations. Its ambition is simple: to carry the alliance of 1778 into our own time, in the service of freedom, prosperity and the unity of the West.

Discussions within the Club are held under the Chatham House Rule. Our community is strictly limited to one hundred leaders, ensuring political neutrality, independence of voice and practical effectiveness in our strategic dialogues.

A radically different approach

There are excellent institutions working to bring France and the United States closer together: the French-American Foundation, AmCham, the chambers of commerce. Club 1778 is not meant to replace them: it does something different.

Where these institutions are open and widely accessible, the Club deliberately chooses to be a closed, small and confidential circle. One hundred members, not one more; by invitation and sponsorship only; discussions behind closed doors, under the Chatham House Rule.
